Orion was the son of Poseidon, the god of the seas.  He was a great hunter, and soon became boastful that he could kill any animal on the face of the earth.  Hera, the queen of the Gods, upon hearing this, decided to prove him wrong.  She sent the scorpion to Orion, and after a brief battle, the scorpion delivered Orion a fatal sting.  Both Orion and the scorpion were given honored places in the sky, but at opposites ends, lest they continue their battle.
